  • Author: Cleo
  • Total Time: 35 mins
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A delicious and easy Sloppy Joe pizza bread recipe that combines savory beef mince in a rich tomato and chili sauce, topped with bubbling mozzarella on toasted baguette slices, perfect for a quick and satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Sauce

  • 500g pack lean beef mince
  • 350g jar tomato and chilli pasta sauce

Bread and Toppings

  • 1 baguette
  • 2 x 125g balls mozzarella, drained and torn
  • small handful basil, torn

Instructions

  1. Cook the beef mince: Heat a large frying pan over high heat, crumble in the lean beef mince, and fry for 8 minutes until completely browned with no pink remaining.
  2. Add the tomato and chilli sauce: Pour in the jar of tomato and chilli pasta sauce, reduce heat slightly, and allow the mixture to bubble uncovered for 15 minutes until it thickens. Taste and season with salt and pepper if needed.
  3. Toast the bread: Preheat the grill. Cut the baguette in half lengthways, then cut each half into two pieces. Place the bread pieces cut-side up on a baking tray and grill for 2-3 minutes until lightly toasted.
  4. Assemble the pizza breads: Remove the toasted bread from the grill and evenly divide the cooked beef mixture over each piece. Scatter the torn mozzarella pieces on top.
  5. Grill with cheese: Return the assembled bread to the grill and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the mozzarella is melted, bubbling, and golden brown.
  6. Finish and serve: Sprinkle the torn basil leaves over the pizza breads and serve immediately. Optionally, accompany with a fresh salad for a complete meal.

Notes

  • Use lean beef mince to reduce fat content.
  • Adjust the amount of tomato and chilli sauce based on your preferred spice level.
  • For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of grated Parmesan before grilling.
  • Leftover pizza breads can be reheated in the grill or oven for best texture.
  • Substitute baguette with ciabatta or other rustic bread if desired.
