Description

Delight in the perfect balance of sweet, salty, and crunchy with this Salted Chocolate Caramel Apple Bark. Layers of smooth dark chocolate, warm homemade brown sugar cider caramel, crunchy salted pretzels, and fresh honeycrisp apple pieces come together in a beautifully chilled bark that’s easy to make and irresistible to share.

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Bark Layers

  • 3 cups dark chocolate chips, melted (divided into 2 cups and 1 cup for drizzling)
  • 2 cups mini salted pretzel twists
  • 1 Honeycrisp apple, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt

Brown Sugar Cider Caramel

  • 6 tablespoons salted butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup apple cider

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base chocolate layer: Line a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Melt 2 cups of dark chocolate chips until smooth. Pour and spread the melted chocolate into a 9×13 inch or slightly smaller rectangle on the parchment-lined sheet.
  2. Make the caramel sauce: In a large pot over medium heat, melt 6 tablespoons of salted butter. Add 1 cup of dark brown sugar and stir until combined. Pour in 1/2 cup of apple cider and bring the mixture to a boil, stirring constantly. Continue to cook for 8 to 10 minutes until the caramel is dark, bubbling, and thickened. Remove from heat and stir in 1 teaspoon of flaky sea salt.
  3. Layer toppings and caramel: Drizzle between 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of the warm caramel sauce over the spread chocolate. Evenly sprinkle the 2 cups of mini salted pretzel twists and the chopped Honeycrisp apple pieces over the caramel. Drizzle another layer of caramel sauce on top of the toppings to help bind them to the bark.
  4. Add the finishing chocolate drizzle and salt: Melt the remaining 1 cup of dark chocolate chips until smooth and drizzle this over the layered bark. Sprinkle additional flakes of sea salt over the top to enhance flavor.
  5. Chill and serve: Place the entire bark in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour until firm. Once set, break into pieces. Store any leftovers in the freezer to keep the apples crisp and prevent sogginess.

Notes

  • Use Honeycrisp apples or other crisp varieties to maintain freshness and crunch.
  • For easier handling, line your cookie sheet with parchment to prevent sticking.
  • Adjust the amount of caramel drizzled to your sweetness preference.
  • Store leftover bark in an airtight container in the freezer to preserve texture.
  • You can substitute salted pretzels with unsalted if preferred, but you may want to increase the flaky salt topping.
