  1. Prepare the Brussels sprouts: Trim the Brussels sprouts, cutting large ones in half or quarters to ensure even cooking.
  2. Place sprouts in a pan: Tip the sprouts into a large pan so they are in a single layer or not piled too high for even steaming.
  3. Add water and salt: Pour in a couple of centimeters of water and add a pinch of salt for flavor.
  4. Cover and boil: Cover the pan and bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  5. Simmer and cook: Reduce heat to a simmer, keep the lid on, and cook for 3 to 5 minutes depending on the size of the sprouts.
