- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour, spooned and leveled
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 15 Oreo cookies, coarsely crushed
Frosting
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar, sifted
- 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract
- 3–4 tbsp milk or heavy cream
- Green gel food coloring
- Pinch of salt
Decorations
- 5 Halloween-themed Oreo cookies (for topping)
- Edible candy eyes
- Assorted Halloween sprinkles (optional)
- Melting chocolate (white or dark, optional, for decoration)
Instructions
- Prepare Pan & Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a 9×13 inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal, and lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Combine Wet Ingredients: Melt 2/3 cup of unsalted butter and allow it to cool slightly. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the two cold eggs one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract, ensuring a well-incorporated mixture.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift and whisk together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, and salt to combine evenly.
- Combine & Add Oreos: Gradually add the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined to avoid overmixing. Gently fold in the coarsely crushed Oreo cookies, distributing them throughout the batter.
- Bake Brownies: Pour the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking to maintain fudgy texture. Once done, cool completely on a wire rack for 1-2 hours.
- Prepare Green Frosting: For the frosting, beat the softened unsalted butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the sifted powdered sugar, vanilla extract, a pinch of salt, and 3 to 4 tablespoons of milk or heavy cream. Beat the frosting until smooth and spreadable. Add green gel food coloring to achieve a spooky Halloween green hue.
- Assemble & Decorate: Make sure the brownies are fully cooled before spreading the green buttercream evenly over the surface. Arrange the five Halloween-themed Oreo cookies on top, then decorate with edible candy eyes and, if desired, Halloween-themed sprinkles or drizzles of melted white or dark chocolate to create fun designs like spiderwebs.
- Chill, Slice & Serve: Chill the decorated brownies in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to set the frosting and enable clean slicing. Remove from fridge, slice using a hot, clean knife, and serve. Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerated for up to one week.
Notes
- Ensure eggs are cold to help achieve a fudgy texture in the brownies.
- Do not overmix the batter after combining dry and wet ingredients to avoid tough brownies.
- The green frosting can be adjusted in color intensity depending on the amount of gel food coloring added.
- Using parchment paper with an overhang allows easy removal of the entire brownie slab.
- For cleaner slices, wipe the knife clean and warm it between cuts.
- Optional melted chocolate decorations can be piped or drizzled for an extra spooky detail.
- Store brownies properly to maintain freshness and prevent drying out.
