Description
This recipe creates a realistic edible fake blood perfect for Halloween or theatrical use. Using simple ingredients like cornflour, cherry juice, and glucose syrup, combined with food coloring, it yields a thick, slow-running gel that mimics the color and texture of real blood. The recipe is easy to follow and allows customization of consistency with additional cherry juice or water.
Ingredients
Scale
Blood Base
- 1 tbsp cornflour
- 45 ml cherry juice or water
- 250 g glucose syrup
Coloring
- Red food colouring gel (generous amount)
- Blue food colouring gel (very small drop)
- Yellow food colouring gel (very small drop)
Instructions
- Prepare Cornflour Mixture: Mix the cornflour with 1 tablespoon of cherry juice or water until smooth. This helps dissolve the cornflour evenly for cooking.
- Heat Ingredients: Pour the cornflour mixture into a small pan along with the glucose syrup and the remaining cherry juice. Heat the mixture gently over low heat while whisking constantly to combine all ingredients smoothly, and prevent lumps. Once fully combined and heated through, remove the pan from the heat.
- Add Red Food Colouring: Squeeze a generous amount of red food colouring gel into the warm mixture and stir well to evenly distribute the red color as the base of the fake blood.
- Adjust Colour Tone: Add a very small drop each of blue and yellow food colouring gels, stirring thoroughly after each addition. These colors help achieve a deep red-brown blood shade. Continue adding tiny drops of coloring and stirring until your desired realistic blood color is reached.
- Store Properly: Transfer the fake blood to a sealed jar and store it in the fridge. The gel will keep for up to three weeks. For a thinner, more liquid consistency, stir in additional cherry juice or water as needed before use.
Notes
- This fake blood is thick and slow-running, ideal for theatrical effects requiring realistic dripping.
- Adjust the color incrementally to avoid overly bright or unrealistic shades.
- Use cherry juice for a more natural look, but water can substitute if unavailable.
- Store in a sealed jar refrigerated to extend freshness up to three weeks.
