  • Diet: Low Fat

Description

These Beef & Salsa Burgers are a healthier alternative to classic fast food, made with lean minced beef and fresh ingredients like grated carrots, onion, and parsley. They’re seasoned with Worcestershire sauce for extra flavor, then grilled to perfection without added oil, making them lower in saturated fats and calories. Served on wholemeal buns with tomato salsa, these burgers offer a delicious and nutritious homemade meal option that’s simple to prepare.

Ingredients

Scale

For the burgers

  • 300g lean minced beef
  • 50g wholemeal breadcrumbs
  • 50g carrots, grated
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • Small handful parsley leaves, chopped
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

To serve

  • 4 wholemeal burger buns
  • Small pot tomato sauce
  • Salad (optional, as per preference)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the grill: Heat the grill to medium heat, ensuring it’s ready for cooking the burgers evenly.
  2. Mix the ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the lean minced beef, wholemeal breadcrumbs, grated carrots, grated onion, chopped parsley, and Worcestershire sauce. Season the mixture well with salt and pepper to taste.
  3. Shape the burgers: Divide the mixture into four equal portions and shape each into a burger patty. Place the patties on a baking tray ready for grilling.
  4. Grill the burgers: Place the tray under the grill and cook the burgers for 3-4 minutes on each side or until thoroughly cooked through and nicely browned.
  5. Toast the buns: While the burgers are cooking, split the burger buns in half and place them cut side up under the grill for about 1 minute to lightly toast.
  6. Assemble and serve: Fill each toasted bun with salad if desired, place a grilled burger patty inside, and top with a generous dollop of tomato salsa. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using lean minced beef reduces saturated fat content, making these burgers a healthier option.
  • Grilling on a wire rack allows excess fat to drip away, improving the nutrition of the burgers.
  • Grated carrots and onion add moisture and natural sweetness to the burgers without adding extra calories.
  • Wholemeal buns increase fiber content compared to white buns.
  • Feel free to customize toppings with your favorite fresh salad vegetables.
  • Ensure burgers are cooked to an internal temperature of 75°C (165°F) for food safety.
